Dr Kate Tunstill
Dr. Kate’s journey into hormonal wellness, weight management, and skin cancer care is rooted in her commitment to supporting patients through every stage of their health journey. Her background, shaped by a hands-on upbringing in the bush, has given her a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by rural communities, and she’s dedicated to providing patient-centered, culturally aware care.
In Broome, Dr. Kate has found a place to connect with patients on a personal level, guiding them through hormone-related wellness—whether managing menopausal symptoms, addressing fatigue or low mood, or treating hormone-related skin issues. She’s passionate about sustainable weight management, using a holistic approach that combines lifestyle changes, personalised nutritional support, and, where suitable, TGA-approved medications. Dr. Kate is also highly skilled in skin cancer checks, taking a proactive role in prevention and early detection to support long-term health.

Medical Weight Management
Medical weight management consults
Our weight management doctor will take a comprehensive look at your history, covering weight patterns, diet, exercise, and lifestyle factors. They’ll measure weight, height, BMI, and run blood tests to check for any obesity-related conditions, like diabetes or high cholesterol. From there, they’ll work with you to create a tailored weight-loss plan that includes dietary recommendations, physical activity guidelines, supplementation, and, if appropriate, prescribed medication. You can expect regular check-ins to review your progress. Wegovy and Mounjaro are two TGA-approved weight loss medications, now available at Broome pharmacies, unlike Ozempic or Saxenda, which were often prescribed off-label and harder to access. You may be eligible for these medications if they have a BMI over 30, or over 27 and living with a condition like diabetes or high blood pressure. Achieving and maintaining weight loss is best approached through a combination of strategies: healthy dietary adjustments, physical activity with a focus on building muscle, lifestyle changes, medication if appropriate, and referrals to other professionals like dietitians, psychologists, or physiotherapists as needed.
Hormonal Wellness
Hormonal wellness consults
Your hormonal wellness consultations address a wide range of hormone-related conditions. You may have concerns like fatigue, low mood, poor sleep, concentration issues, hot flushes, or low libido. Hormone-related skin conditions, such as acne, melasma, and rosacea, are also common. For patients with acne or weight gain, we can assess for PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) if relevant.
We can order blood tests to evaluate female hormone levels for patients not on hormonal contraception. For those experiencing perimenopausal or menopausal symptoms, we offer both menopausal hormone replacement therapy (MHT) and non-hormonal options for support.
If you have acne we can test for PCOS and, if necessary, provide treatment options. This may include prescribing the contraceptive pill for hormonal acne, other medications, or custom-compounded topical creams tailored to their specific acne type. For persistent acne that hasn’t responded to standard treatments, we offer individually compounded medications designed specifically for each patient.
When it comes to melasma and rosacea, we can provide compounded therapies in collaboration with Piper in Dermal for optimal results. We also address female and male pattern baldness with customised compounded treatments.
Skin Cancer Check
cancer screening
Your skin cancer check will be conducted with dermoscopy, the gold standard for skin cancer screening in Australia. The dermatoscope uses magnification and both polarised and non-polarised light to reveal intricate structures within skin lesions. We apply specific algorithms to assess each mole or lesion, determining if it should be biopsied or removed. We can also capture clinical images of any lesion and securely record it on your personal body map, allowing us to monitor any changes between skin checks. Currently we are not equipped for skin biopsies or excisions, as we don’t have the necessary facilities to manage potential bleeding. For non-urgent cases we refer you to Dr. Dikkumburra at Broome Medical Clinic. If an urgent biopsy or excision is needed, you will be referred directly to the General Surgeons at Broome Hospital. People with a history of skin cancer should ideally come in for a skin check every six months. For the general population, annual checks are recommended, though any new or concerning lesions should be examined sooner. Dr Kate has completed specialised dermoscopy training, which enhances the ability to diagnose skin cancer effectively.
