Patient Post Care

DERMAL

The Code to Aftercare

You’re all done! Now what?

Let’s quickly walk through our code to aftercare to ensure you know what to expect and how you can assist in achieving the best results post treatment.

Initial post care considerations

Please ensure you remain upright for 4 hours following your treatment to prevent any injectables or alike from migrating to other areas.

You may notice a slight redness, swelling, or tenderness in the treated area. Rest assured these reactions are normal after dermal injections and usually resolve within a few days. If symptoms persist beyond 7-days (or if other reactions occur), please get in touch.

Post treatment swelling may appear asymmetrical; this is normal and is not an indication of the end result. Natural asymmetries are normal and having a dermal treatment for the first time may also stimulate this. Please allow your dermal injections 3 to 4 weeks to deeply settle into the skin before considering further treatment or reviewing the results.

Bruising is a common and expected side effect of many dermal skin treatments and any dermal filler treatment. It will not alter the final treatment results. In order to reduce bruising, it is important to adhere to the aftercare code of conduct.

Bruising can be managed with the application of cool compresses, topical Arnica, or Hirudoid cream. We offer Smartlux LED treatments for cases of severe bruising.

Please avoid any medications containing NSAIDs, aspirin, vitamin E, fish oil tablets and ginseng during the week prior and following treatment (unless medically required).

There may be small lumps in the treatment area, but these generally disappear as the filler integrates into the skin. If they are still present at 2 to 3 weeks post-treatment they can be massaged, but please do not massage the filler prior to 1-week post treatment as this may cause more trauma to the treatment area. Please contact us if the lumps do not disappear after 2 to 3 weeks of regular massage.

Post treatment (24 hours)

For the first 24-hours post treatment, avoid active cosmeceutical products such as  AHAs, retinol, vitamin C, and oil-based make-up. Limit your use of spas, saunas, hot showers and any other heated environments.

Post treatment (2 Days)

Avoid touching or putting pressure on the area for 48-hours post treatment. Do not massage the treatment area unless you are instructed to do so. Sleep on your back if possible for the 2-days following treatment and try to avoid placing your head face-down on the pillow.

Prior and post treatment (3 to 7 days)

In the 3-days post treatment we advise you to avoid air travel, strenuous exercise, and alcohol. Not drinking alcohol in the 7-days prior and post treatment will help to achieve optimal results.

Prior and post treatment (14 days)

For the 14-days prior and following your treatment it is highly advised you avoid any vaccines or immunisation injections.

Post treatment (7 days)

Following treatment with dermal filler, we recommend applying a cool compress to the treated area for 10 minutes every half an hour on the day of the treatment (ensure you do not apply ice directly to the skin).

Use a topical treatment to soothe the treated area, such as Bepanthen or Arnica cream 3 times per day for the 7-days post treatment.

Post treatment (14 days)

For the 14-days following your injection, it is highly advised that you avoid any dental treatments, sun exposure, extreme temperatures (including saunas), and aesthetic procedures of any type (including massages, facials, waxing, chemical peels, skin needling, hydrafacials, IPL, or laser treatments). Please discuss any future treatment plans with your practitioner.
